Day 19 (D-44) Crazy Horse Memorial

Crazy Horse.
From yesterday's biography.com to today's VOA English (Voice Of America).
Easy slow English:

As usual, I suggest that you look at the transcript after having listened first.

You should be able to listen to the text here:

We'll be visiting the Crazy Horse Memorial during our stay in Rapid City. It's about a 50-minute drive from Rapid City and about a half-hour drive from Mount Rushmore. The Memorial is not finished yet.

From Wikipedia, Simple English:

The Crazy Horse Memorial is the world's largest mountain sculpture in progress. It is in the Black Hills of South Dakota, USA. The statue depicts Crazy Horse, a famous Lakota warrior.  Korczak Ziolkowski started the project in 1948 at the request of Chief Henry Standing Bear and other Native American elders. The statue is meant to be a memorial to the spirit of Crazy Horse as well as the Native American people.

Ziolkowski believed in individual initiative and private enterprise, and as such, never accepted government funding. He continued to work on the memorial until his death in 1982.
Ziolkowski's wife and family have continued to work on the Crazy Horse Memorial. Completion of the project is currently unknown because of several factors including weather, the availability of financing and the challenges of the mountain engineering.
The face of Crazy Horse was completed and dedicated in 1998. Work on the memorial continues today.

On September 6, 2016, on holidays, I was reading on the beach Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee.  When I returned to the house, I turned on the TV to watch the news.  Amazing!
Go to Le Journal de France 2 replay here and advance to 26:45.  It's time to listen to a little French!  Unfortunately, you will have to watch over a minute of advertisement first.  Patience.  It is very interesting...and in French...and with David Puyjadas!
My best,
Jane
PS.  Parisians know another Crazy Horse in Paris, n'est-ce pas?  Have you ever been there????

  1. Sorry, i only had the script of the VOA article and the audio was not (for me?) available. I think also that it is a very good understanding exercise. Listen to a first time and pick up some words. Listen to a second time and pick up some phrases. and listen a third time to try to summarize the article in using the phrases.
Your information about the history of USA and indian Tribes are very interesting. Even i believe that Crazy horse monument is a little ridiculous. Indian tribes lived in the respect of the Nature and i do not think that the Great Spirit is in a 8-meter nose.
Indian women at Crazy horse saloon are beautiful, exquisite, gorgeous and they do not need buffalo fur because they wear only lights.

  2. Thank you for your comment. I didn't know that VOA no longer gives you the text to listen to.
I found it in another place. Try here:https://americanenglish.state.gov/files/ae/resource_files/crazyhorse.mp3
I'll also put this link in the blog post itself. And thanks for your humour too! 😆
